The Samsung Galaxy S4currently runs on Android 4.4 KitKat, and in some regions of the world it’s been officially updated to Android 4.4.4, the last iteration in the KitKat line. But what about Android 5.0 Lollipop? When are we going to see that appear? You can find out all of the latest Galaxy S4 Lollipop update details right here. Update: It’s now possible to install an early version of Android 5.0 on the Galaxy S4. Go to the “install Android 5.0 Lollipop on the Galaxy S4 manually” section to find out how.

Galaxy S4 Android 5.0 Lollipop update

While Samsung is remaining typically tight-lipped about any update plans for the Galaxy S4, our suspicion that the S4 would get the update sooner or later seems to have now been confirmed by SamMobile. Of course, the S4 is still within the 18-month update window, but it’s nice to have something close to official to lean on.

Though this isn’t an official confirmation, when Sam Mobile states an update is coming the site is usually pretty much on the mark, especially when you consider it had the preview build of Android 5.0 for the Galaxy S5weeks ago. It wouldn’t surprise me to know if Sam Mobile had already seen a test build of Lollipop on the S4.

Here’s a video from SamMobileof Android Lollipop on the Galaxy S4, complete with refreshed TouchWiz UI:

While Sam Mobile isn’t disclosing any dates, we’re still expecting Android 5.0 to arrive for the Exynos variant of the Galaxy S4 first, sometime at the end of February or in early March. With the accelerated update timeline for the Galaxy S5 though (reportedly December) the Lollipop update for the S4 may even come at the end of January or early February instead. Of course, carriers will slow things down a little along with the usual regional delays and the update batching process adding some time to the process too. So even if we had a firm date, you’d still have an uncertain month-long window at the end of it.

Update: You can now install an early build of Google’s latest operating system on the Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505) variant. Once again the XDA Developers forum has provided us with an unofficial Lollipop build based on CyanogenMod 12, and for an early community version it is, by all accounts, pretty full-featured and stable. Known issues include some (not uncommon) trouble with NFC, and micro SD card problems. Apart from that, everything else seems to be running pretty smoothly. If you’re feeling up to it, head over to the S4 ROM thread at the XDA Developers forum.

Find out the latest news on Android 4.4.4 for the Galaxy S4 below the break.

Galaxy S4 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update

Good news for T-Mobile Galaxy S4owners! There is an update rolling out which starts today to bump your smartphone up to the latest version of Android KitKat 4.4.4.

This update will also bring some other goodies such as ”Wi-Fi calling enhancements“ to your Galaxy S4 (build M919UVUFNH7), and can be downloaded over-the-air directly or by using the Samsung Kies PC software (with your device hooked up to your computer).

To download the update, make sure you have an unrooted device with more than 50% battery life and at least 403 MB of storage space available.

I don’t think Samsung would ignore the S4(or any variations) seeing as it’s relatively recent, though I hope it’s more successful than previous attempts by Samsung to update their firmware.
